You should complete a financial aid application at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The grants and loans awarded through this application are not based on your credit. You will need your tax returns to complete the application. Contact your financial aid office for the timeline on what you must do after the application is recieved.
DO NOT pay for a scholarship search! Search at www.fastweb.com this is a free scholarship search.
Both. Grants to be applied directly to your education ie tuition, books etc. Loans to assist your lifestyle. Also all there must be checks and balances in place. Keeping up the grades, making sure the money is being spent on what you would need to let you pursue your goal of a degree/diploma.
Okay... I am a recent college grad (3 weeks ago) who had loans. However, I did not use a private institution, bank, or credit company... I went to the best source for ANYONE to get a loan or even financial assistance--the U.S. government. You can get either an unsub/subsidized loan-- guranteed. My parents made too much money for me to get financial aide, so, I took out an unsubsidized loan from the govt, signed my promissory note through Sallie Mae, and 4 yrs later I have my Bachelors of Business Administration. 6 months from now I will have to repay the loan (never higher than 6% interest) in monthly increments. I will be making more than the minimum requirement though.
scholarships and grants are not typically based on your credit, private loans are based on your credit, however public loans such as stafford and ford direct loans are not based on credit scores, you should contact your school's financial aid office for more information about these types of loans.
there is a website called grant search USA, on there you pay 3.95 for shipping of a cd that links you to all kinds of grants. I am in your situation and found 2 or 3 for about 150 dollars each but hey anything helps. Also if you have children there is what they call temporary assistance for needy families and if you are trying to go to school a friend of mine just got 1,000 dollars so she now has money to put towards tuition. Hope this helps a little.
