If the lender will accept your bad credit history or no credit history, don't sign with them. Generally that lender will charge a very high interest rate along with many hidden fees and charges.
With all the credit companies and such having problems the qualifications are getting tighter to borrow money from reputable institutions.
Go to your school and check into their student assistant programs for loans, grants and work-study programs.
When I went to school I didn't have a co-signer. I got a GSL (guaranteed student loan) through my local credit union. It was deferred until I graduated and then I had to pay it back.
You can also get a part-time job to help pay the bills.
